The Eight Street Baptist Church began worshipping as a congregation on the Twenty-first day of December, eighteen hundred and Ninety-two in the Baptist Chapel near Scott Street in Wilmington, Delaware. This was the beginning of the recorded history for the church now also known as The Resurrection Center.

The Resurrection Center has an extraordinary history and we believe a powerful future. It is a nondenominational church located in the heart of Wilmington, Delaware, on North Market Street. Founded in 1892, the Eighth Street Baptist Church relocated to North Market Street in 1998 and began doing business as The Resurrection Center in 2005. In 2010, The Resurrection Center paid off its mortgage and in 2011 God expanded The Resurrection Center into Middletown, Delaware. We are now one church in two locations. The congregation is made up of 1500 members and shepherded by Dr. S. Todd Townsend, Sr., and Co-Pastor Dr. Cleo V. Townsend.

The purpose of The Resurrection Center is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, as revealed in the Bible, to promote a Spirit filled environment that hungers for this gospel, and to serve as liberating agents in the midst of the world.

Furthermore, God desires that we have the mind of Christ and be genuinely and sincerely concerned for God's people by practicing righteous living as revealed in the Word of God

Beloved… and "visionary" Resurrection Center Family,
friends and welcome guests;

I am delighted to salute you during this historic and distinguished season of ministry advancement. It is clear that His hand of blessing rests upon our present… while His eye guides us forward… and His voice orders our steps.

"Write the vision, and make it plain…that he may run who reads it"… says the prophet (Hab 2:2). And so we have written the vision down, made it plain… and proclaim it confidently in your hearing today:

"BEYOND ALL LIMITS!... RENOVATE!... REINVENT!... REVIVE!"

All that is left to accomplish is for the visionary Resurrection Center Family to take up the vision and run!

At a glance we see that God is the same yesterday, today and forever more. The commission to win souls remains our first priority and call. Yet, God also requires us to mature individually, proceed corporately and expand regionally. We must advance the Kingdom of God from generation to generation.

This requires the growth and augmentation of our facilities: RENOVATION!

It also requires the growth and expansion of our leadership structure: REINVENTION!

And finally, it requires the spiritual and authentic development of our people: REVIVAL!

I am persuaded that He (God) is able to perform the vision through us. Our unified efforts, immediate service and willing sacrifices will surely bring the vision to pass. Come, let us together put your hands to this good work and let us build and expand the kingdom of our God from one generation to the next.

Let's renovate and expand our facilities to accommodate more people and readily meet their needs via relevant ministries that are designed to bless.
Let's zealously reinvent our leadership systems to effect standards of exceptional ministry performance and evangelistic impact in our world today.
Let's revive the spirit of holiness, service, faithfulness, and true worship among our people and before our God…
